South O'Brien scored five runs in the third and fourth innings on the way to a 6-1 victory over Hinton in a Class 2A District 1 baseball match-up in Cherokee Saturday night.
The Wolverines played Cherokee in Cherokee Tuesday night in a second-round District match-up. Cherokee beat Sioux Central 7-2 in the game following the SOS-Hinton game in Cherokee Saturday night.
Ryan Brasser picked up the pitching won for South O'Brien over Hinton, allowing no earned runs on six hits, while striking out nine in seven innings of work.
Jarod Syndergaard led the Wolverines at the plate with a 2-2 night with two runs scored and one RBI. Brasser was 1-3 with three RBI, Jimmy Callahan 2-4 with a run scored, and Mike Faust 1-3 with two runs scored.
Tyler Steurmann and Craig Brown each had two hits for the Blackhawks.
Steurmann took the pitching loss for Hinton, giving up six runs on six hits and eight costly walks in six innings of work.
