Schuck's 2 homers, Ege's grand slam pace Cherokee
Boom! Bam! Pow!
That's about as descriptive as we need to go concerning the Cherokee Braves' 10-0 demolition of a very good South O'Brien team at Tuesday's Class 2A District 1 baseball semifinal in Cherokee.
The Boom! counts for Kyle Schuck's three-run home run in the first inning and the Bam! is for Schuck's two-run home run in the second inning. And those two long Schuck bombs to left center were then followed by the Pow! representing Cody Ege's grand slam tater down the left field line in the fourth inning on a 3-0 "green light" count.

Those three big blows quickly quieted a large South O'Brien following and set the potent Wolverine offense back on its heels in the face of Cody Ege's masterful pitching performance. The senior all-stater allowed just two hits and no walks, while striking out 10 SOS batters in the six-inning game called early on account of the 10-run mercy rule.

Wolverine starter Chas Biery took the pitching loss for SOS, giving up five runs on five hits and two walks, with three strikeouts in two innings of work. Biery was relieved by Wolverine ace Ryan Brasser who struck out eight and walked two in four innings for an impressive performance with the exception of grooving a 3-0 pitch to Ege who uncorked the grand slam that sealed the deal on top of Schuck's five RBI night.
Besides Schucks and Ege's hitting heroics, Alanzo Ruble and Zac Woods stroked doubles for Cherokee, and Jake Spindler, Brock Benson, and Matt Pitts had singles for the cause.
"We were able to get some big hits by Kyle and Cody, and Cody did another fine job on the mound," said Cherokee coach Scott Koch.
The Braves take a 16-13 record to Sioux Center Saturday night to take on West Lyon (11-8) in a 7 p.m. Class 2A District final.
