On Tuesday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m. the Sanford Museum invites the public to a reception as part of the Museum's effort in being re-accredited.
Pat Miller, Director of the Illinois Heritage Association in Champaign, Ill. and Susan McLeod, Director of the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire, Wis. will be the featured guests of the Museum.
The Sanford Museum and Planetarium was the first museum in the state of Iowa to be accredited by the American Association of Museums.
There are approximately 750 museums accredited, and that's about five percent of all the museums in the United States.
Accredited museums pledge to put into practices agreed upon national museum standards.
The Sanford was first accredited in 1972 and has been re-accredited in 1985 and again in 1998. The museum is in the process of being re-accredited once again this year.
Part of the process of re-accreditation is hosting peer reviewers - museum professionals who will be visiting the museum. Miller and McLeod will be the peer reviewers.
