The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors heard from County Engineer Dave Shanahan on Tuesday.
Shanahan updated the Board on the progress that the Secondary Roads are making on county roads that were damaged due to the recent flooding of the Little Sioux River and Mill Creek.
Shanahan stated that crews are busy fixing culverts, hauling replacement gravel, cleaning debris and fixing bridges.
Shanahan also stated that they are concentrating their efforts manly on the eastern half of the county. He indicated that was where most of the damage had occurred.
Shanahan also bought along with him to the meeting two interns to meet the Board. Tom Wilson and Cliff Spangler have been with the Secondary Roads Department for most of the summer. Spangler will be joining the department at a tech two position. Shanahan requested a wage authorization for Spangler. His pay rate will be $18.21 per hour.
In other business, the Board approved a liquor license for Jake Schutt of Jake's Sports Lounge in Aurelia. Schutt, along with the Aurelia Kiwanis Club and the City of Aurelia, will be setting up food and drink stands on the property of Denny Allen along the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) route. Schutt will be serving beer, Red Bull and frozen liquor treats.
