As we turn the calendar to August, a common question shared by landowners and tenants is, "what is a fair cash rent for the 2011 crop year?" To provide some insight into that question, an Iowa State University Extension Farmland Leasing Workshop will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Western Iowa Tech Community College Auditorium in Cherokee.
The workshop is designed to assist landowners, tenants, and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland leasing, ownership, and management. A review of the trends in background economic factors, prices, and profitability of corn and soybeans and flexible cash leases will be covered. A case study farm will also be examined to answer any questions, to show how to calculate land rent, and cover basic leasing laws.
The workshop will be conducted by Tom Olsen, ISU Extension Farm Management Field Specialist. The fee is $20 per person or $30 per couple and will include one copy of the 100-page publication "Farmland Leasing -- 2010". To pre-register, or for more information, contact the Cherokee County Extension Office at 712-225-6196 or email email@example.com.
