River Valley softball season wrap-up

River Valley closed out the 2010 season with an 8-12 record, 6-8 in the Western Valley Conference, good for fifth place. The Wolverines will graduate two seniors who will be hard to replace, accoding to their coach, Dean Norris.

"Sarah Byers is a three year starter who played a variey of positions and had a great attitude about softball," said Norris, "and Kelli Miller is a five-year starter and two time all conference selection who practiced softball daily. (Miller) was a great leader for the team with her positive attitude and tremendous talent as a pitcher and outfielder. They both will be missed. "

Norris said River Valley will return seven starters next year, so he is optimistic about the future of the program.

River Valley posted a team batting average of . 271, and awarded the following post-season honors to its players - Most Valuable Player, Kelli Miller; Teammate Award- Lexie Chester; Hustle Award- McKensie Fitch; Most Improved - Jordain Volkert.

All Conference First Team - Kari Ludvigson, 3rd Base. Kari is a second time 1st team selection who posted a .490 BA with 14 RBI and 13 stolen bases this season.

Kelli Miller, pitcher, who had a 2.42 ERA with 57 strikeouts, 27 walks and 107 Hits in 121.67 innings pitched.

All Conference Second Team - Lexie Chester, OF (.288, 12 RBI) and McKensie Fitch, SS (.294, 11 RBI, 13 SB).

Honorable Mention for All Conference honors went to first baseman Sarah Byers and catcher Amanda Miller.
