VFW Auxiliary notes

Cherokee VFW Auxiliary met July 12 for their regular monthly meeting. President, Marian McNabb opened the meeting according to ritual. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Shirley Nation gave the treasurer report. Old business was the discussion of the upcoming Ice Cream Social to be held, Saturday, July 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Post Home.

Awards received at State Convention were Citation of Merit-Per Member quota in cancer; Citation of Merit Winning Buddy Poppy Entry, Poppy Promotion Category 1-Buddy Poppy Display Contest; Voice of Democracy Award; Americanism Award; Citation of Merit Best History of Activities Group C; Shirley Perrett received Certificate of Merit Outstanding Auxiliary Chairman; Marian McNabb's Poppy Display won State Honor and will go on to National.

Buddy Poppy distribution will be Thursday Sept. 2. Other upcoming events, Veteran's Day Appreciation in August; Gold Star Mother's recognition in September; Oct. 23 "Make a Difference Day," members are reminded to bring articles for packing servicemen and women care packages.

Donna Waterbury and Gloria Anderson delivered Meals on Wheels the first week in July.

Pearl Jenness gave a report on attending State Convention. Shirley Perrett read General Orders and a 'thank you' from Camp Courageous for sending a $25 donation and coupons for overseas. New State Officers for 2010-2011 are as follows: Ann Bennett, President; Connie Bauer Sr. Vice; Mary Ann Ransford Jr. Vice; Caroline Oldenburg Treasurer; Beverly White Chaplain; Arlene Murray Conductress; Penny Hurt Guard; President, Anne Bennett''s motto is 'Beacon of Hope for Our Veterans," her symbol is a Lighthouse.

There being no further business, President Marian McNabb closed the meeting according to ritual. Next meeting Aug. 9.
