Galva-Holstein Superintendent of Schools Dr. Harold Post has announced that the district has purchased an apartment complex on Davenport Street, where one enters the school from the west. The property was purchased from Tom Gardalen for $80,000. Gardalen is to remove the structure and level the ground, and the school will construct a new parking lot there next spring.
The District previously purchased a house to the south and west of the elementary playground two years ago, and it was also removed to make room for a parking lot.
The need for increased parking has arisen because of the whole-grade sharing with the Schaller- Crestland district as well as the construction of the Rosemary Clausen Performing Arts Center adjacent to the school.
Dr. Post said that the following construction projects have either been completed recently or are on schedule for completion: New gym lights and classroom lights were installed on 5-31-2010; a new parking driveway to the west of the bus garage will be completed on 7-15-2010; new football bleachers and upgrading are to be completed by 8-15-2010, as is a new 60' by 80' storage building; the parking lot west of school is to be completed by 8-30-2010; the Performing Arts Center will be ready for occupancy by 9-1-2010; and a new Early Childhood Playground is to be completed by 9-15-2010.
