The Cherokee Swim Team hosted their final home meet of the season at the Bacon Aquatic Center against Algona on July 12. The host team boasted five triple winners, two double winners and ten single event winners at the meet and also won 10 of 18 relay events.

Brett Barritt won the 11-12 boys' 100m freestyle in 1:26.43, the 50m backstroke in 50.28 and the 50m freestyle in 37.37 seconds; Halie Kraft won the 13-14 girls' 100m freestyle in 1:18.01, the 50m butterfly in 40.89 and the 50m freestyle in 34.97 seconds; and in the 9-10 age group, Kylie Mongan and Lindsay Williams took six of the seven girls' events with Kylie winning the 100m freestyle in a record-breaking time of 1:25.31. The previous record was 1:26.77, which she set herself last year. She won the 25m breaststroke in 24.06 seconds and the 100m Individual Medley (I.M.) in 1:45.46. Lindsay won the 25m butterfly in 19.49, the 50m freestyle in 39.35 and the 25m freestyle in 17.24 seconds. Tyler Richardson was a triple winner in the boys' 9-10 group by taking the 25m butterfly in 24.79, the 25m breaststroke in 25.06 and the 25m freestyle in 19.43 seconds.
The two double winners were Emily Haselhoff and Brennon Prentice in the 13-14 age group. Emily took the 50m breaststroke in 49.22 and the 100m I.M. in 1:35.93 on the girls' side of the age group, while Brennon's wins in the boys'group came in the 50m butterfly in 42.39 and the 100m I.M. in 1:29.69. giving Cherokee wins in 5 of the 6 events of that age group.
The list of single event winners begins with Megan Brown, who won the 8 & under girls' 25m freestyle in a time of 22.22 seconds. Calvin Chalstrom won the 50m breaststroke in 50.38 seconds in the 11-12 boys' age group, and Taylan Entriken, in the same age group, took the 100m I.M. in 1:51.53.

Brianna Fowler had a record setting performance in the 15 & over girls' 50m backstroke where her time of 37.11 beat Ann Torey's 1999 record of 37.31. Beth Hanner also won an event in this age group, the 50m butterfly, with her time of 48.62. Liz Herrera won the 11-12 girls' 50m breaststroke in 50.85 seconds, while Kaely Hummel took the 100m I.M. in a VERY close race in this age group when she touched out her competition by just .18 seconds to win in 1:41.00.
Teammate Mikki Hinkhouse won the 13-14 girls' 50m backstroke in a time of 48.19 seconds, giving Cherokee a sweep in this age group. Apryl Mesler provided the home team with a sweep in the 9-10 girls' events by winning the 25m backstroke in a great time of 23.94, and Grace Teusink took the 11-12 girls' 50m backstroke in 47.69 seconds to round out the list of single winners.
In the relay events, the 8 & under boys' 100m freestyle relay won in a time of 1:22.85, with team members Kaiden Royster, Kameron Royster, Curtis Riedemann and Matthew Stieneke In the 9-10 age group , the boys' 100m freestyle relay also came up in first with team members Kaeleb Royster, Carson Mongan, Thad Booth and Tyler Richardson finishing in 1:40.49. The girls finished the final sweep in this age group by winning both the 100m medley and the 100m freestyle relays. The winning combo at this meet was Kylie Mongan, Alyssa Trapp, Lindsay Williams and Jennifer Barritt and their winning times were 1:26.99 in the medley and 1:17.51 in the freestyle relay. In the 11-12 age group, the girls' 200m freestyle relay team took first in 2:40.76 and the team was made up of Taylor Hirschman, Liz Herrera, Hayley Graybill and Kaely Hummel.
The boys won both the 200m medley and the 200m freestyle relays with team members Brett Barritt, Calvin Chalstrom, Taylan Entriken and Kyle Roepke. The medley relay's winning time was 3:29.1, while in the freestyle relay it was a time of 3:08.14 that got the job done. The 13-14 girls also won both their relays, the 200m medley team of Britney Sargent, Emily Haselhoff, Halie Kraft and Mikki Hinkhouse finished in 2:51.25, while the free relay team consisted of Sargent, Haselhoff, Kraft and Mikayla Schuett and their winning time was 2:31.91. Finally, the 15-18 boys' relay team that took first in the 200m freestyle relay event with Brennon Prentice, Skyler Lucas, Michael Rosewall and Jaden Lux swimming for Cherokee.

The Cherokee team will wrap up their season with two meets next week, first traveling to Laurens on Wednesday, and then traveling all the way to Forest City on Saturday the 24th to wrap up the season at the AHEELA Conference Meet, where they face the other 10 teams in the conference for one big championship meet.
