Farmland Leasing Workshop Set For Cherokee County

Landowners and tenants are encouraged to attend a farmland leasing workshop scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5.

The workshop will be held at the Western Iowa Tech Community College Auditorium in Cherokee from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. according to Tom Olsen, farm management field specialist, Iowa State University Extension.

Olsen will present current leasing information including the latest land value and cash rent surveys. "We will discuss several methods used to establish a fair rental amount," said Olsen.

Trends in prices and profitability of corn and soybeans will be discussed as well as basic leasing laws. Time will be allowed for questions and answers.

Registration fee for the workshop is $20 per person or $30 per couple and will include one copy of the 100-page publication "Farmland Leasing -- 2010."

Pre-registration is requested by Aug. 4 to assure adequate materials are available.
