DeVos wins Cherokee Men's Open

Cherokee Washington High boys golf coach and teacher James DeVos won the Championship Flight of the annual Cherokee Men's Open Golf Tournament played July 25 at the Cherokee Golf & Country Club.

DeVos shot a one-over 109 in the 27-hole competition. Championship Flight runner-up was Tom Ward of Sioux City.

Joel Tainter of Sergeant Bluff was third in Championship Flight after winning on handicap hole criteria over Kirk Walker of Sioux City, followed by Steve Brock of Storm Lake, and Aaron Hember of Cherokee.

First Flight winner was Jim Rodgers of Cherokee, who carded an 80. Tom Berglund of Sioux City, a former Grand Meadow flash, was second in First Flight, and Ron Dekok of Le Mars was third.

Ed Benson of Aurelia claimed Second Flight honors with a fast-paced 91, followed by Larry Anderson of Storm Lake, and Marc Brandt of Cherokee.

Besides the flight winners, no other scores were submitted.
