Diane Gubbels holds up one of her childhood dresses, with another that her mother made for her as a child in the background. These quilts served as an inspiration for Diane to sew and quilt an extensive collection of her own. Photo contributed.
A quilting show, "Stories of Inspiration" is lined up for Sunday afternoon, August 15, at the Marcus Fair, and will begin at at 3 p.m., following the cooking school. The board asked Diane Gubbels, of Coleridge, Neb., to come and share her inspirational thoughts along with her many creative quilts. Those few fortunate individuals who attend Quilting Kaboodle Quilt Show last spring in Cherokee were absolutely amazed at her work.

She will bring stacks of quilts to show and there is a story behind each one. From the first to the last quilt, you will marvel at their beauty, design and color. Each is so original. The layouts are terrific. If she would say, "Select one to keep", you wouldn't be able to make up your mind. It is definitely time well spent to take in this show. The quilts come in all sizes and colors.

Gubbels will get your imagination going with ideas for your own home and loved ones. She teaches there is no limit to what your mind can come up with. She will tell you not to throw anything away as it could be used in a quilt. She has boxes marked with fabric, all kinds of times, linens, buttons, thread, embroidery items as well as former items of clothing to rekindle in a quilt.

Bring a pad as you no doubt will like to take notes. There are so many terrific ideas, you won't be able to remember them without some help.

Many who have been to several quilt shows hailed this show of Gubbels to be the very best of the quilt shows. She is easy to listen to and very understanding of one's feelings. She actually is a dedicated artist by using cloth and thread to create keepsakes. Gubbel will speak for a good hour, but trust me, you will never know it. It will be fantastic to see and hear as she leaves you fired up to create something of your own. Don't miss this one.
