Exciting things continue to happen at the Prairie Heritage Center. The annual Bison Burger

Picnic and Lawn Concert sponsored by the Little Sioux Valley Conservation Association and the O'Brien County Conservation Board is a great opportunity for the public to see the changes that have occurred over the past year.

This year the event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the Prairie Heritage Center. Food will be served from 5 p.m. -- 7:30 p.m. Bison burgers will be hot off the grill and served with side dishes and watermelon.

After the meal, enjoy a pleasant evening listening to music by David Rowley. He is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Bring your lawn chair for the outdoor concert, and relax with your neighbors.

Tickets for the event are $7 for adults, $3 for ages five through eight, and those under five years of age are free. Advance tickets can be purchased from the O'Brien County Conservation Board, and tickets will also be available at the door. Proceeds will help to fund an bison educational display.

Make plans to join them for an evening of good food and great music at the Prairie Heritage Center.

Also the O'Brien County Conservation Board is offering an entry level experience to the canoeing world. Paddling a smooth lake or a lazy river provides a different view on the world. The event "Can You Canoe?" will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26 beginning at 6 p.m at Mill Creek Park near Paullina.

The Conservation Board will provide paddles, canoes and life vests. All participants need to bring is their sense of adventure. The program will begin with some canoeing basics. Then people will glide into the lake to put their knowledge to the test.

The program is free to all, but space for is limited. Please contact the Prairie Heritage Center at 712-295-7200 for more information or to register. The Prairie Heritage Center is located 1 mile north of Hwy 10 on Yellow Avenue between Sutherland and Peterson.
