Chester Specht
Chester W.Specht, 85, of Cleghorn, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 12, 2010 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. Pastor Don Meyer and Vicar Lance Klamer will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com Chester was born on Sept. 16, 1924 at Cherokee, to William and Viviann (Smith) Specht. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1943. He was married to Mildred (Midge) Crippen on April 25, 1946 at Trinity Church.He farmed until 1962 when he moved to Cleghorn.He worked for the Cleghorn Elevator, was a bus driver for the Meriden-Cleghorn Schools, worked for Hoover Oil Co. in Marcus and finished with Mogensen Construction in Cleghorn.He was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus; having served as Elder and financial secretary. He was a member of the Marcus Horseshoe Club, Pinochle Club, former member of the Cleghorn Fire Dept. for 30 years and was a Sheridan Sure Shooters 4-H leader. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing, mowing, playing cards and spending time at his cottage at Spirit Lake and time spent with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet Peck a granddaughter Rachel and two nieces. He is survived by his wife, Midge; and four children; Denny Specht and his wife Donna of Marcus; Cheryl Plagman of Meriden; Keith Specht and his wife Skeeter of Poulsbo, Wash.; Caryl Robinson and her husband Marv of Cleghorn; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter; a sister Wanda Jones of Kirksville, Mo.
