Cherokee Police warn of scam

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

(Photo)
Cherokee Police are advising residents about a scam which is coming in the mail and/or by telephone.

The messages are allegedly coming from Canada, Nigeria, and/or Jamaica, and advise recipients that they can "win millions."

The catch is that you have to send money by Western Union to "claim" your alleged winnings.

The police ask that anyone receiving such calls or mailings not send any money, but rather call the police to report the phone number or address of the sender.
