A fund-raiser for the Fred Springer family of Cherokee is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, at the Cherokee VFW Club and will include a meal and dance with free-will donations.
The Cherokee County Pork Producers will be grilling the meat for the Springer VFW fund-raiser. Other events associated with the VFW fund-raiser will be forthcoming.
The Springer family is faced with mounting medical and personal bills resulting from Fred's injuries sustained in a car accident in February and he has been unable to work because of those debilitating injuries sustained in the accident affecting his motor skills.
A dedicated civic volunteer, Springer is well-known for initiating, organizing and working the special free breakfast served at the Depot in the wee hours to musicians and volunteers after the Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival each January.
Fred and his family also are members of the Depot Renovation, Inc. group which led the renovation of the historic Cherokee RR Depot, and have contributed their labor and in-kind services for various Depot fund-raisers through the years.
Donations are being accepted at Central Bank in Cherokee for the "Fred Springer Benefit Fund."
