Graveside services were held on Tuesday, August 24th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Holstein Cemetery. Pastor Shari O'Bannon officiated. Visitation was on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Gladys was born April 19, 1922, rural Holstein, Iowa to Theodore & Alma (Weinert) Streed. She attended Diamond Township Country School and graduated from Galva High School in 1939. She then obtained her Teaching Certificate from Buena Vista College in 1940. She was married to Arnold C. Albers on March 29, 1941 at Dakota City, Nebraska. She was a farm wife and following the death of her husband in 1969, she went back to school and obtained her LPN Nursing Degree from WIT in 1971. Gladys then worked at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital as an LPN until her retirement in 1987. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church. She had been a resident of Cherokee the past 22 years and prior to this had lived in Quimby and rural Washta, Iowa. She had been a member of 4H and a Neighborhood Card Club. Gladys loved playing cards, puzzles, traveling with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, a daughter Janet in 2008, two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Walker, and her husband Randy of Cherokee, Iowa; a son-in-law, Larry Dean Goettsch of Washta; four grandchildren, Karina (James) Cascione of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Wyatt (Allie) Walker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Susan (Bill) Hackett of Castle Rock, Colorado; Larry A. (Sandra) Goettsch of Ida Grove, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Loren & Allison Goettsch; two sisters-in law and one brother-in-law: Yvonne Streed of Perry, Iowa; Fred Bruns of Sac City, Iowa; Alice Hartshorn of Bishop, California; also many nieces and nephews.
