SCHALLER - The Ridge View Raptors, ranked #2 in the state in Class 2A, began their volleyball season on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 3-0 non-conference win over South Central Calhoun, taking the games by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 26-24.
Raptors coach Scott Mitchelll said, "It looked like the first night, with some uncertainty and nervousness. Once we settled down and started communicating on the court, things went better. I thought we did a good job of regrouping when our starting setter, Egypt Clayton, hurt her hand in the first game."
The Raptors had 30 kills, five ace serves and four blocks as a team, and individual leaders included Brooke Weise, who had eight kills and 10 digs; Roxanne Grundmeier, with seven kills; Nicole Snyder, who had 22 assists; Dana Hustedt, with 14 digs; Kaitlynn Madsen, who had two blocks; and Shannon Rohlk, who had two ace serves.
Coach Mitchell said the team needs to continue working on passing, noting that "if that improves, we could be a good team."
