3 residents eye vacant Council seat

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

The Cherokee City Council has received three applications from Ward 3 citizens agreeing to accept an appointment to replace Council member Greg Stieneke, who resigned the post August 4, citing health issues.

The Council is reviewing the applications and will make an appointment at a special Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7

The three candidates submitting applications are former Council member Ron Johnson of 1402 S. Craig Dr., Planning and Zoning Commission member Randy Badtram of 401 S. Craig Dr., and Cherokee Fire Department member Wayne Pingel of 502 N. Craig Dr.

The deadline for interested citizens to submit their names for consideration for the post was 4:30 p.m. Aug. 27. The official publication of the Council vacancy, which allows for 14 days for citizens to petition to have a special election, ended Aug. 30. The Council can't make the appointment until after that petition deadline date, but must make an appointment within 40 days after Stieneke's resignation was effective, or, on or before Sept. 12.

If possible, the Council will attempt to schedule all regular business to be completed at Tuesday's Sept. 7 meeting to try to avoid holding another meeting Sept. 14, the official date of the regularly scheduled meeting.
