#2 Ridge View sweeps Wildcats

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

SCHALLER - The Ridge View Raptors volleyball team, rated #2 in the latest IGHSAU Class 2A rankings, swept a Western Valley Conference match here against Woodbury Central on Thursday.

Game scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-20, for Coach Scott Mitchell's Raptors, who are now 2-0 on the young season and 1-0 in conference play.

Roxanne Grundmeier led the Raptors' attack with nine kills, with Shannon Rohlk adding seven. Egypt Clayton had two ace serves and 15 assists for the Raptors, and Nicole Snyder added a dozen assists. Clayton had two blocks on defense, and dig leaders were Grundmeier, with eight, and Brooke Wiese and Dana Hustedt, who each had five.

Coach Mitchell said he "saw some flashes of good things" in the match, including hitting the ball well on offense, but he also felt that his team "needs to communicate better on the court, so we are all on the same page."

The Ridge View freshman and JV teams also won their matches by 3-0 and 4-0 scores, respectively, and both of those teams are now 2-0 for the season.

Ridge View hosts an entertaining triangular Thursday in Schaller also featuring Cherokee and River Valley.
