WHS cross country runners improve times

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

SPIRIT LAKE - The Cherokee girls placed 9th and the times improved for the Cherokee Washington High cross country squads here last week. The boys didn't field enough runners to figure in the team standings.

Running in her first varsity competition for Cherokee, Hanna Benningsdorf led her team with a 19:10 clocking for 42nd place, followed by Chyenne Mortenson 20:04 for 45th, Tasha Larsen 21:39 for 50th, Stephanie Aguillar 22:18 for 52nd, and Madison Book 22:37 for 54th.

Two runners competed for the boys team, with Jaden Lux placing 50th in 19:10, and Andy Pitts 58th in 21:56.

In girls JV action for Cherokee, Abby Hayes was 27th in 25:15, and Amber Lundquist 28th in 25:53.

"The runners showed lots of improvement from their first meet, with every runner improving their time even though we've had some sickness going through the squad," said Cherokee coach Jolene Hultgren. "Hanna and Andy were running in their first cross country race and had very good beginning times."
