Raptors rated 6th at 13-2

ROCKWELL CITY - The sixth-ranked Ridge View volleyball team ran its season record to 13-2 after winning five of six matches Saturday at the South Central Calhoun Volleyball Tournament here.

The Raptors of coach Scott Mitchell degeated Fort Dodge St. Edmond 21-8, 23-21; Panorama 21-10, 21-14; Paton-Churday 21-10, 21-10; lost to rated East Sac County 21-17, 22-20; beat South Central Calhoun 26-28, 21-19, 15-7; and beat kingsley-Pierson 21-11, 21-7.

Ridge View was 180-216 hitting in the tourney with 98 kills, and 237-252 serving for 94 percent and 24 aces. Team digs totaled 59, assists 93, and blocks 22.

Roxanne Grundmeier led the Raptors in kills with 36, and Brooke Wiese added 22. Wiese also led the team in ace serves with seven. Egypt Clayton paced Ridge View in set assists with 51, and Nicole Snyder added 35. Betch Schwanz led in digs with 21, and Grundmeier tallied 19.

"Over all, it was a good day," said coach Mitchell. "We improved in some areas and found some weaknesses that we need to work on.

"We had some opportunities against East Sac County, but just didn't capitalize. I was happy the way we bounced back against a tough South Central Calhoun right after the loss to East Sac."

Ridge View plays at Storm Lake Thursday, and in the Fort Dodge Tournament on Saturday.
