MMC girls beat WEC VB foes

The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team handled two War Eagle Conference foes recently, beating Granville Spalding on the road 3-2 on game scores of 25-27, 25-23, 25-12, 18-25, 15-8; and sweeping West Sioux in Marcus 3-0 on game scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-16.

Against Spalding, Jalyn Doeden led MMC in hitting with 26-32 and eight kills, followed by Kayla Foresman 22-24 and 11 kills, Erica Dreckman 20-22 and 17 kills, Stephanie Specht 14-14 and five kills, and Reagan McDaniel 8-9 and two kills.

Jackie Holmes led the Eagles in serving with a 25-26 night and three aces, followed by Foresman 18-22 and five aces, Specht 17-18 and two aces, Doeden 15-21 and four aces, and Dreckman 12-16 and four aces. Holmes also led in set assists with 38, and Dreckman led in digs with 11, and Foresman tallied nine.

Against West Sioux, Dreckman paced MMC hitters with a 23-25 effort and 13 kills, while Foresman was 17-21 and six kills, Doeden 12-14 and seven kills, and Specht 7-8 and three kills.

Leading servers for the Eagles were Doeden 21-23 and eight aces, Holmes 17-19 and two aces, Specht 10-10 and one ace, and Dreckman 7-8. Holmes tallied 16 set assists, and Specht had nine digs, Doeden five, and Dreckman four.

The MMC girls compete in the Cherokee Invitational in Cherokee Saturday.
