Cherokee VFW Auxiliary met Sept. 18 and potluck supper was enjoyed by both the Post and Auxiliary honoring Gold Star Mothers. Following the supper a meeting was held.
President, Marian McNabb opened the meeting according to ritual. Minutes of the previous meeting approved as read. The Treasurer report was given by Shirley Nation.
Essays for the year are as follows: 3rd Grade 'Why I Love America'; 4th Grade 'Why I Am Grateful For Veterans' 5th Grade 'My Visions For Our Country's Future Are.'
Shirley Nation reported sending 118 memberships in and 140 is needed for quota. If quota is reached by November a cash reward will be sent. Members were reminded of 'Make A Difference Day' Oct. 23 for the October meeting bring an item or two for the military deployed overseas.
Donna Waterbury donated a table runner, teddy bear and two books for the 'Library Basket' fund raiser, also eight lap robes for The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Marian McNabb reported a very successful Buddy Poppy Day.
Pow-Wow will be Sept. 25-26 at the Ramada, 5000 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. National President, Cortina Barnes, will be making her official visit in Iowa Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and 2.
