HARTLEY - Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn rolled to a 42-7 win over the Alta-Aurelia Warriors in District 2 Class 1A football here on Friday, moving the 7th-ranked Hawks' record to 4-0.
Matt Finch rushed for 159 yards for HMS, and he and Josh Treybal each scored two TDs, as the undefeated Hawks raced to a 42-0 halftime lead and the second half was played with Hawk substitutes and a continuous clock due to the 35-point mercy rule.
Sophomore Garret VanHouten led the Warriors' rushing attack with 76 yards in 15 carries, and he scored the Warriors' lone touchdown - their first trip to the end zone since their opening-week victory over Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto.
Nathan Corlew added 62 yards on 11 carries for the Warriors. Ross Parcel had nine carries for 24 yards. Alta-Aurelia quarterback Ryan Friedrich completed 1 of 5 passes for 10 yards and had one attempt picked off.
Van Houten also led the Warriors' defenders with 10 tackles, while Alex Stephan had eight stops and Karl Kennedy, Chris Bengtson and Nathan Corlew had six apiece.
The Warriors, now 1- 3 overall and 0-2 in the district, host Sioux Central on Friday in Alta.
