Kara Nelson tops field at Ames

Cherokee Washington graduate Kara Nelson, now a senior at Morningside College, was the individual champion at the ISU Iowa Intercollegiate Cross Country Meet in Ames last Saturday.

Nelson, the daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee, topped a field of 96 runners, including the varsity runners from NCAA Division I Iowa State, completing the 5k course in a time of 18:37. Morningside finished second behind ISU in the team standings.

For her outstanding performance, Nelson was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The Morningside Mustangs will compete in the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn. this Saturday, Sept. 25.
