David W. Renken, age 40 of Cherokee, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee with Father Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be at the Meriden Cemetery at a later date.
David Wayne Renken, son of Bill and Barb (Johannes) Renken was born Jan. 16, 1970 in San Fernando, Calif. Two weeks after his birth, the family relocated to Newell and then Aurelia and in 1971 settled in Meriden where he spent his childhood years. David graduated from Meriden Cleghorn High School in 1988.
Following high school, David joined the Navy. While in the Navy, he sustained an injury to his knee in which he received an honorable discharge in 1992. David had various jobs in Florida, California and eventually returned to his roots back in Iowa.
David enjoyed cooking, riding motorcycles and 4-wheelers, tinkering with cars, and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his daughters; Nissa Renken of Cherokee, and Hannah Renken of Ft. Dodge; parents; Bill and Barb Renken of Cherokee; two brothers; William (Buffy) J. Renken of Cherokee and Rodger Renken of Cherokee; three sisters; Sherri (Lonnie) Benson of Meriden, Debra (Dimitris) Pavli of Cherokee and Kim Renken of Cherokee; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
