Cherokee XC runs at Sheldon

SHELDON - The potent Orange City Unity Christian runners won both the boys and girls team titles at Tuesday's Sheldon Cross County Invitational.

The Unity Christian boys totaled 68 points to win that competition, followed by Storm Lake 71, Spirit Lake Park 73, Hull Western Christian 105, Spencer 139, MOC-Floyd Valley 142, West Lyon 191, Le Mars 211, Sioux Center 250, Sheldon 259, and Cherokee 325.

UC won the girls team crown with 50 points, followed by Sioux Center 75, Spirit Lake Park 103, Spencer 123, HWC 125, Le Mars 139, Estherville-LC/A-R 176, Sheldon 196, MOC-FV 240, Cherokee 299, Storm Lake 318.

Eamon Adamson paced the Cherokee boys, placing 53rd in a time of 18:40, followed by Austin Winchell 58th in 18:56, Jaden Lux 59th in 18:57, Andy Pitts 77th in 21:50, and Conner Ogren 78th in 25:49. Adamson, Winchell, Lux, and Ogren each posted personal best times.

Hanna Benningsdorf led the Cherokee girls to the finish line, placing 55th in 18:25, followed by Chyenne Mortenson 56th in 18:34, Danni Roethler 58th in 19:03, Katy Hart 64th in 19:25, Madison Book 66th in 20:08, and Stephanie Aguilar 69th in 21:06. All six Cherokee girls posted personal bests in the race.

In JV girls action, Amber Lundquist was 50th in 21:45, and Abby Hayes 64th in 24:35.

In Middle School girls action, Baily Gaydo was 12thy in 14:42, earning a medal in the process, and Sydney Hart was 20th in 15:40.

"The kids are running better as evidenced by all the personal bests that they have been getting in the last two meets," said Cherokee coach Jolene Hultgren. "This is where we want to be at this point in the season - getting better each meet. All of the team members did a great job at this meet showing a great work ethic to get better."
