The Cherokee American Legion Auxiliary held their September meeting recently. They gathered all their goodies for the Schools to be delivered on Sept. 29 to all the staff at all the Cherokee Schools to show their appreciation of all their hard work. Last month they collected items to take to three of the schools for children that need supplies. They also worked on ditty bags for the homeless Veterans near the Sioux Falls Vets Hospital.
Their biggest goal right now is to locate Servicemen families that would appreciate any help we can give. They have a Operation Military Kids program that they really want to get started again in this area. Anyone interested please contact any Auxiliary member or call Claudia Brown at 225-3449.
They are working on their membership right now so if anyone is interested in joining their small group they would be very glad to have you come and visit one of their meetings and check them out. They meet at the Legion Hall the third Thursday of every month. Their Hall is located at 516 W. Cedar in the former Garfield School. Meeting time for both Auxiliary and Legion is 7:30 p.m.
They had one new member join their group this past month, Diane Thomas. The Auxiliary is happy to have her in their group.
Last month several of members worked to Fall Clean one of Cherokee's World War II Veterans home. This Gentleman is also a purple heart recipient. They all enjoyed listening to his war stories as we cleaned his home. It was quite an honor for all of them.
LuAnn Wittrock and Sharon Godfrey put together a scarecrow for the city contest. Their next meeting will be Oct. 21. Anyone is welcome to be their guest.
