ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia Warriors won their first game in the District here on Friday, using their ground game to beat the Sioux Central Rebels by a 14-8 score.
Alta/Aurelia rolled up 316 yards on the ground, led by Nathan Corlew's 119 yards on just 12 carries. Garret VanHouten added 109 yards on 23 totes. Quarterback Ryan Friedrich ran nine times for 39 yards and scored both of the Warrior touchdowns. Friedrich also completed 2 of 5 passes for 27 yards.
Karl Kennedy led the A-A defense with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Friedrich had eight stops and an interception. VanHouten also had eight tackles, Alex Stephan six and Nathan Corlew five tackles and a fumble recovery. Austin Glawe had one pass reception on offense for 23 yards and also picked off one Sioux Central aerial.
Sioux Central (1-4) was led by quarterback Brad Ripke, who rushed 12 times for 64 yards and completed 14 of 23 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, and had two passes intercepted.
Adam Ehlers led Rebel defenders with 15 tackles and Collin Swanson had 13.
The Warriors are now 1-3 in the District and 2-3 overall, and play at Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer on Friday, before hosting South O'Brien at Alta for Homecoming on October 8.
