The Ridge View Raptors volleyball squad had matches on Monday and Tuesday this week.
In a match at the Western Valley Conference Tournament on Monday at Mapleton, the Raptors fell to Westwood in two close games, 25-23, 25-22.
Raptors coach Scott Mitchell said his team "had opportunities to make some plays and couldn't quite finish the job," adding that "We need to do a better job of blocking."
Roxanne Grundmeier led Ridge View's attack with nine kills and Brooke Weise had six; Egypt Clayton had 16 assists in the match, and she and Nicole Boyle each had a block. Gretchen Kistenmacher had 12 digs and Brooke Weise six, and Kistenmacher and Grundmeier each had one ace serve.
On Tuesday, the Raptors took on Lawton-Bronson in regular season Western Valley Conference play at Schaller, and Ridge View moved its conference mark to 4-1 and overall mark to 20-10 with a 25-22, 25-27, 25-11, 25-20 win over the Eagles.
Coach Mitchell stated, "We weren't at our sharpest, but it was a good conference win over an athletic team. We were just a step slow tonight - especially with our passing. Passing starts the offense, and is a big reason we struggled tonight."
Grundmeier led the team in kills with 19 and Weise had nine, while Clayton again led the team in assists with 38 on the night. Grundmeier also led the team in digs, with 19, while Kistenmacher had 14.
Clayton, Erin Wissink, and Shannon Rohlk each had three blocks and Nicole Boyle had two. Grundmeier and Kistenmacher each had two ace serves.
The Ridge View JV team lost their match, 2 games to 1, leaving them with a 7-4 record, and the Ridge View freshman team tied the L-B frosh at one game apiece, putting their season mark at 10-1-1.
The Raptors next play Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto at Mapleton on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
