Election Commissioner encourages voter registration

Absentee ballots are also available

The Voter Pre-Registration deadline for the General Election is Saturday, Oct. 23.

Cherokee County Commissioner of Elections Kris Glienke encourages new residents of the county to register by downloading the registration form at www.cherokeecountyiowa.com/electiongener... or by stopping at the Cherokee County Auditor's office to complete a registration form at the Cherokee County Courthouse 520 W. Main St., Cherokee, IA.

The Election Commissioner's office will be open on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pre-registration and absentee voting. If voters have moved within the county, it is advised that a new voter registration form be completed to update their voting address. All residents in the State of Iowa must vote in the precinct in which they reside on Election Day.

Any new voter registrations received after Oct. 23 will require a current photo ID and proof of residency.

Also absentee ballots are now available for the upcoming election at the Auditor's office or you can receive an absentee ballot by mail. If you will be unable to vote on the scheduled Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2 you may stop in or call the Auditor's office at 225-6704 to receive the absentee request form.

You can send your ballot request to, the County Auditor in the county where you live. (Cherokee County Auditor, 520 W. Main St., Drawer H, Cherokee, IA 51012)

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail is 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the election, Oct. 29. You may vote absentee at the County Auditor's office through Monday, Nov. 1. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Monday, Nov. 1, or you may hand deliver your voted ballot to the Auditor's office by 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The Cherokee County Auditor's Office also reminds voters that the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2 for the General Election. All residents in the State of Iowa must vote in the precinct in which they reside on Election Day. Polling locations for Cherokee County residents are:

#1 Aurelia Community Center (Afton, Diamond, Pitcher, Spring Townships & City of Aurelia).

#2 Cleghorn Community Center (Amherst, Liberty, Marcus, Sheridan Townships & Cities of Cleghorn, Marcus & Meriden).

#3 Quimby Community Center (Grand Meadow, Rock, Silver, Tilden, Willow Townships & Cities of Quimby & Washta).

#4 Cherokee County Courthouse Lower Level (Cedar, Cherokee, Pilot Townships & City of Larrabee).

#5 Cherokee Community Center Upper Level (City of Cherokee Ward 1).

#6 Cherokee Community Center Upper Level (City of Cherokee Ward 2).

#7 Cherokee Community Center Lower Level (City of Cherokee Ward 3).
