MMC volleyball team stays busy

The busy Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball squad went 2-1 at last Saturday's Granville Spalding Tournament, and then dropped a 3-0 match to highly regarded Hinton in Marcus on Tuesday.

In the Spalding Tournament, the Eagles of coach Carla Weber beat the host Spartans 21-12, 21-19; and beat Aurelia 21-5, 21-7; before losing to Boyden-Hyll 17-21, 16-21.

Kayla Foresman led MMC in hitting in the Spalding Tournament with a 34-41 effort and five kills, followed by Erica Dreckman 27-31 and seven kills, Jalyn Doeden 19-25 and 13 kills, Jackie Holmes 16-18 and five kills, Steph Specht 11-13, and Reagan McDaniel 10-13 and three kills.

Holmes paced the Eagles in serving with a 24-25 day and sevean aces, while Foresman was 21-21 and five aces, McDaniel 18-19 and nine aces, Doeden 14-18 and three aces, Bailey Schneider 14-15 and five aces, and Dreckman 11-14 and five aces.

Dreckman led her team in digs with nine, and Doeden had seven, and Foresman five.

In the loss to Hinton, Dreckman led in hitting with a 20-25 effort and six kills, followed by Doeden 18-26 and five kills, Specht 15-15 and four kills, Foresman 13-14 and six kills, Holmes 10-11 and one kill, and McDaniel 7-9.

Dreckman also led in serving with a 10-12 night and one ace, followed by Holmes 9-10 and two aces, Doeden 8-9 and one ace, Foresman 6-7 and an ace, and McDaniel and Schneider each 5-5.

Holmes paced MMC in set assists with 15, and Dreckman tallied four digs to lead that category. Foresman had four blocks, while Doeden and McDaniel registered three each.

MMC plays at rated Orange City Unity Christian Tuesday.
