POCAHONTAS - The Alta-Aurelia Warriors came up a touchdown short as they fell to the Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer Indians in Class 1A district football action here on Friday. The Warriors totaled 11 first downs and 237 yards of total offense, but lost to the home team 12-6. Quarterback Ryan Friedrich led the Warriors' rushing attack with 56 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries, while sophomore running back Garret Van Houten gained 36 yards on 12 attempts and Nathan Corlew added 21 yards on eight carries. Friedrich also completed nine of 21 pass attempts for 124 yards, with five of the aerials going to Van Houten and three to Austin Glawe. Corlew caught the other completion.
The Warriors' defensive effort was led by Dylan Harms and Alex Stephan, both of whom registered nine tackles, while Glawe added six stops.
PA/PP (1-5) had 243 yards rushing and 19 passing.
The Warriors, now 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the district, will host South O'Brien, which also has an overall mark of 2-4, in their Homecoming game Friday at Alta.
