College Fairs invaluable

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Last weekend, representatives from educational institutions in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota were on hand to provide information and answer students' questions at a College Fair in South Sioux City, Neb.

Four-year public and private colleges, community colleges, two-year schools, private career institutions, and the military were all in attendance to benefit area students and to tout their respective institutions.

Financial aid presentations also were offered to explain that most vital process.

The College Fair Tips offered to students attending the annual College Fair included:

*Arrive early so you have time to visit with all the colleges that interest you.

*Stop at the EducationQuest booth for free college planning materials and a bag to collect college handouts.

*Come prepared with questions. Such as:

Does the school offer programs that match your interest?

What are the enrollment numbers?

What are the housing options?

When is the application deadline?

How do you apply for college-based scholarships?

What is the priority date for applying for financial aid?

What are the costs for tuition and fees - and room and board?

We hope many area students took advantage of the event and gleaned invaluable information to be utilized when the decision day arrives for students and parents to select an institution of higher learning.

The tips also will be useful as a reference guide when a student visits a college campus or other educational or military opportunities when making a career choice.

Best of luck students and parents as together you travel the road to higher education!
