The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met during a brief session on Tuesday at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
Among the items on the Boards agenda was presentation of the Cherokee County Recorder's Quarterly Revenue Report by Cherokee County Recorder Dawn Jones Coombs.
Coombs' report stated a total quarter revenue ending 9-30-10 was $44,670, and of that amount $21,094 was allocated for Cherokee County, and $23,576 for the State of Iowa. The Board approved Coombs' report.
The Board also approved two wage authorizations, one for Donald Jennings, who is a part-time radio dispatcher, for the amount of $13.22 per hour. The other wage authorization was for Paula Ellis, a part-time engineer's receptionist, for the amount of $8.50 per hour.
In other business, the Board met with Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation Director Mark Buschkamp who discussed with the Board about organic conversion application from Gary Otto. The Board approved Otto's application for 157 acres in Pilot and Pitcher Townships.
It is Otto's intent to convert conventional farming with chemicals to organic crops. This is a five-year program with 100% rebate of county levies. Farmers must become a USDA certified organic producer after three years or they will have to pay the tax rebates back to the county.
