MMC VB girls split 2 matches

The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team split two recent matches last week, falling 3-0 at rated Orange City Unity Christian, and then defeating neighborhood rival Remsen St. Mary's 3-1 in Marcus.

The Eagles lost by7 game scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-12 at Unity Christian, and beat the Hawks 25-19, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21.

Jalyn Doeden led the MMC hitting effort at Unity Christian with a 27-32 night and nine kills, followed by Erica Dreckman 22-28 and six kills, jackie Holmes 11-12 and one kill, Kayla Foresman 9-11 and three kills, Reagan McDaniel 9-10 and one kill, and Stephanie Specht 9-10 and one kill.

Setter Holmes led her team in assists with 13, and Doeden led in digs with seven, and Dreckman had four. Foresman and Specht tallied five blocks each, and McDaniel was in on four.

Bailey Schneider and McDaniel led in serving with 8-8 nights, while Holmes was 8-9, Foresman 8-10, Doeden 7-9, and Dreckman 6-9. Dreckman had two aces.

In the win over the RSM Hawks, the active Dreckman led in hitting with a 43-50 effort and 15 kills, followed by Doeden 30-31 and 14 kills, Holmes 23-24 and three kills, Specht 18-20 and five kills, McDaniel 12-14 and five kills, and Foresman 9-21 and seven kills.

Holmes totaled 33 assists and Doeden registered 11 digs, Dreckman eight, and Foresman seven.

Doeden paced the MMC serving effort with 21-24 and four aces, followed by Dreckman 18-20 and five aces, Foresman 17-19 and three aces, Holmes 13-16 and one ace, McDaniel 7-8 and one ace, Schneider 6-8, and Jennifer Gross 5-6 and five aces.

MMC hosts Akron-Westfield Thursday night to end regular season play.
