The Ridge View Raptors took on the Siux City North Stars in a volleyball match on Monday and the Raptors came away with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 win over the larger Sioux City school.
Veteran Ridge View coach Scott Mitchell said his team "blocked very well" in the match. He also thought his team "did an excellent job of serving aggressively to zones," and he thought the Raptors scrambled well defensively and played good defense, as well as doing a nice job mixing up their shots on offense.
Roxanne Grundmeier had 14 kills on the night and teammate Brooke Weise had nine, while Egypt Clayton paced the team in assists, dishing out 27. Grundmeier had 20 digs and Gretchen Kistenmacher 11 to lead the team in that statistical category, while Nicole Boyle, with five, Grundmeier with three, and Shannon Rohlk, with two, led the team in blocks. Beth Schwanz, Brooke Weise, and Shannon Rohlk each had two ace serves.
The Raptors improved their season record to 22-10. They are 5-1 in Western Valley Conference play.
The Ridge View JV has an 18-7 mark and the freshman squad is 20-2-1. The team travels to Ida Grove to play Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove on tonight, then plays in the Bishop Heelan Tournament in Sioux City on Saturday, before hitting the Class 2A Regional Tournament trail on Tuesday, when they take on Lawton-Bronson at Schaller.
