Nelson, teammate 1-2 at BCU Invite

SIOUX CITY - Morningside College had the top two finishers in the women's division at Saturday's Briar Cliff University Invitational Cross Country Meet, held at Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, S. D.

Kara Nelson, a senior from Cherokee, ran the 5k course in 17:45.10 to top a field of 154 runners, and teammate Jessica Hudelson, a junior from Elk Point, S.D., was right behind in second place, with a time of 17:45.35. Mustang runner Lydia Ford, a junior from Vermillion, S.D., also cracked the top 25 with a time of 18:50.04 for 21st place.

The three runners' efforts led the Mustangs, ranked 16th nationally in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll, to a third place finish in the team standings, with a total of 93 points, behind #11 Concordia University and # 15 Black Hills State College.

Morningside will compete in the Mount Marty College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 23 in Yankton, S.D.
