Freddie Buenger, 81, of rural Preston, passed away at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, Minn.
A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, at the Riley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Rushton of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston officiating. Interment will follow at the Carrolton Cemetery in rural Fountain.
Freddie was one of six sons born in Mapleton, to Ben and Emma Buenger, as well as two daughters. Freddie grew up and was raised in Aurelia, and attended rural school in Diamond Township, Cherokee County. Upon completion of school, Freddie went into farming with his father.
On Nov. 17, 1951, he married Lea Worman in Aurelia. In December of 1958 Freddie and Lea purchased a farm in Preston, where together they raised their family and where they remain today.
Freddie was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Preston and especially enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm and love of fishing, camping and hunting with all of his family. For many years Lea and Freddie owned and operated a lollipop business, in which Freddie relished the many opportunities to meet people, travel, visit and share jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Robert, Henry and Donald; son Kevin; and granddaughter Anna.
Freddie will be missed by his spouse, Lea; four sons, Micheal (Judy) of Ellendale, Minn., Darrell (Julie) of Chatfield, Jeffery (Sheila) of Preston and Brian of Preston; three daughters, Karen (Brian) Welch of Chatfield, Sara (Russ) Loomis of Caledonia and Lori (Jason) Gossman of Greenleafton; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernhard Buenger of Aurelia; and two sisters, Geneva Buenger of Aurelia and Meta Mae Holtz of California.
