Aurelia 'Harvest Hoopla' scheduled for Oct. 30

Monday, October 18, 2010

AURELIA - The town of Aurelia will be holding its annual 'Harvest Hoopla' once again this fall, and what better time than Hallowe'en?

Harvest Hoopla events will be going on all day on Saturday, October 30 in downtown Aurelia.

A Hunter Harvest Breakfast will be served at the Aurelia Community Center from 7-11 a.m., with proceeds going to the Aurelia school's D.A.R.E. Program. Individual tickets for the meal are $5 and Family tickets are $15. The event is sponsored by the Aurelia Kiwanis Club, Commercial Club and the D.A.R.E. Program.

A bake sale, sponsored by Sunset Knoll Auxiliary, will also be going on at the Community Center from 8-10 a.m., and the Aurelia Library will be having a Book Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Library is also the place to submit dishes containing pumpkin and the recipes for those dishes for the Pumpkin Recipe Contest. Contestants are asked to submit their entries, along with a copy of the recipe, by 10:30 a.m. Judging will be done at 11 a.m., and the winner will be announced at noon. Entries must be picked up by 12:30 p.m., or they will be disposed of.

The next event at the Community Center is the "Little Spooks House of Fun," sponsored by the Friends of Aurelia organization. There will be all new activity stations, and the event is suggested for kids in the 5th Grade or younger. Costumes are optional. The House of Fun will be from 2-4 p.m.

A downtown tailgate meal, sponsored by the Auelia High School Junior Class, is next on the agenda, starting at 4:30 p.m. The money raised from purchased meals will go to help put on the last Aurelia High School prom. Meals can be delivered to your car (Trunk or Treat), or can be eaten inside the Community Center.

At 5 p.m., something new is being tried, and it will need the support of the communiy to make it work. Community members are being asked to don a costume, decorate the trunk of their car and park in the parking lot at the Community Center. "Helen of Troy" will then lead the trick-or-treating kids from the City Park and parade past all the parked cars in the lot. The car owners are then being asked to hand out treats to the paraders and other trick-or-treaters from the trunk of their car during the hours of 5-7:30 p.m. There will be prizes for everyone who wears a costume and/or has a decorated trunk.

The evening will conclude with a Free Family Fun Night from 6-8 p.m. at the Aurelia Community Center with games, food and fun, sponsored by the Aurelia Commercial Club.

For the Over 21 crowd, 3 Pete's is having a Hallowe'en Party and Costume Contest, with drink specials, and prizes awarded at 8 p.m., and Jake's Lounge is also having a Hallowe'en Party and Costume Contest at 9 p.m., complete with a DJ and a "flippy cup" contest.
