Jane Letsche, 92, of Marcus, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. Rev. Don Meyer officiated. Burial followed at the Remsen Cemetery.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Earnest -- Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus. The family was present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to greet friends and a prayer service was held at 7 p.m. There was also a one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday. Eva Jane Letsche was born on Sept. 3, 1918 in Eldora, to Carl E. and Emma M. (Haack) Schumacher. As a young girl, Jane moved with her family to Remsen, where she began her education. After graduating from Remsen High School she attended Western Union (Westmar) College in Le Mars. Upon completion of her Teaching Certificate, Jane taught country school near Remsen.

On June 22, 1940 Jane and Walter Herman Letsche were united in marriage at Dakota City, Neb. Jane and Walter made their home on a farm near Marcus where they raised their family. In 1993, Jane and Walter moved into Cherokee to spend their retirement years. Walter passed away on March 4, 2004. Jane remained in Cherokee until moving to Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Jane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, where she participated in Ladies' Aid and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and was known for her cherry pie. Her family will always remember her positive outlook and kind disposition. Jane also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following the events in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; a son-in-law, Jim "Buckwheat" Lickiss; and four brothers, Robert, Paul, Daniel, and James.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons and their wives, Richard and Bernadine of Edina, Minn., Phil and Judy of Marcus, and Roger and Becky of Scurry, Texas; a daughter Mary Lickiss and her special friend Gary Chase of Cherokee; seven grandchildren and their families David and Jill, Rachel, John and Joseph Letsche; Christine and Matthew, Chloe, Camille, and Christopher Winston; Kirk and Sheila Letsche, Levi Letsche, Jaci (Luke) Seablom, and Neal Schreier; Eric and Margaret Letsche; Jana and Adam, Mason, Alexa, and Jada Timmerman; Michelle and Shane, Hayley, Hayden, and Morgan Graybill; and Luke Letsche; sisters-in-law, Gerry Schumacher of Colorado, Eva Schumacher of Mapleton, and Shirley Schumacher of Le Mars.
