Computer literacy program for older adults in Cherokee

Monday, October 25, 2010

The Community Action Agency of Siouxland has received a grant from Senior Service America to offer a computer literacy program to older adults.

The classes will be offered through June of 2011. The program utilizes the Generations Online software program.

This program is designed to introduce and engage the large population of older adults who cannot afford or who choose not to enroll in a computer class in use of the internet.

Generations Online helps participants gain the basic skills that will allow them to access and search for information on the Internet, create an online email account, send and receive emails, communicate with others online and stimulate and encourage communication and exchange ideas among generations.

Classes are free of charge to adults 55 and older. Classes are currently being offered at the Cherokee Iowa Work Force Development Office, 923 S 2nd Street.

To find out more information about classes offered at the Cherokee Iowa Workforce Development contact: Garry Coon at the Community Action Agency of Siouxland 1-800-352-3725 ext. 231.
