2A XC teams run at Regionals

SLP boys, UC girls claim team titles

ORANGE CITY - The Spirit Lake Park boys and Orange City Unity Christian girls won their respective team titles at Thursday's Class 2A boys District/Regional Cross Country Meet here.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualify for the State Meet scheduled for Saturday at Fort Dodge.

The Spirit Lake Park boys won the team title with 56 points, followed by Unity Christian 64, George-Little Rock/Central Lyon 94, Hull Western Christian 103, Sioux Center 141, North Iowa 144, Sheldon 197, Okoboji 197, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 243, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 286, Sioux Central 321, Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union 361.

The Cherokee boys featured just four runners and not enough to figure in the team race.

Unity Christian won the girls division with 62 points, followed by Sioux Center 79, Spirit Lake Park 81, HWC 119, Sibley-Ocheyedan 144, Sioux Central 145, Sheldon 171, G-LR/CL 176, Okoboji 253, MMC/RU 272, Cherokee 273.

SLP's Alec Baldwin won the boys race in 16:04 and his teammate Keith Byers was second in 16:22.

Derek Reuter led the MMC/RU boys with a 53rd-place finish in 19:06, followed by Ben Brady 73rd in 20:34, Zack kellog 76th in 21:15, Jacob Pearson 78th in 21:36, Mitch Brady 81st in 22:50, Kyle Arndt 84th in 26:54, and Steve Thomson 85th in 26:54.

For the Cherokee boys, Eamon Adamson paced the finishers with a 30th place finish in 18:15, followed by Jaden Lux 58th in 19:17, Austin Winchell 69th in 20:04, and Andy Pitts 77th in 21:35.

Freshman Leah Seivert of S-O won the girls race in a time of 14:54, 42 seconds better than runner-up K.J. Veldman of SLP clocked in 15:36.

Anna Wilcox led MMC/RU to the finish line, placing 44th in 17:58, followed by Kelsey Sears 50th in 18:32, Sami Tentinger 54th in 19:03, Monica DeLaCruz 56th in 19:24, Brianna Wilberding 68th in 20:23, Alissa McDermott 70th in10:20, and Kelsey Brady 72nd in 21:14.

Hanna Benningsdorf led Cherokee, placing 45th in 17:59, followed by Chyenee Mortenson 51st in 18:32, Katy Hart 57th in 19:24, Madison Book 59th in 19:40, and Danni Roethler 61st in 19:43.
