WITCC Fall 2010 Cherokee Community Education Classes

There's still time for area residents to take advantage of the Western Iowa Tech Community College Fall Community Education Classes now under way at the Cherokee WITCC Campus.

Although some popular classes have already been completed, or are now under way, several intriguing, informative, fun, and educational pursuits at really reasonable fees are still available.

Now's the time to take advantage of these WITCC Fall Classes:

*Ladies' Night out--Making The Holidays Easier

Now is the most wonderful time to spend an evening with your friends, and prepare for your holiday festivities. Hy-Vee Gifts & More along with Hy-Vee Floral and Hy-Vee Food Store have just the perfect evening planned for you! You will sample and enjoy a wide variety of food trays prepared from Hy-Vee's fresh service departments. Unique decorating ideas, gift-giving ideas, personal accessorizing tips and floral arranging are some of the presentations you will see. Also included in the evening will be time to browse the displays and ample time to register for the many door prizes of the evening.

One session: Monday, November 1; 6:30-8:30 p.m.

*Investment Foundations

Do you have questions about your financial future? Don't know much about the stock market or mutual funds? These classes are for you! Join instructor Steve Rochleau as he shares information about the basic structure of the stock market and defines terms including bonds, mutual funds and asset allocation. Common investment mistakes will also be discussed. Students will also have an opportunity to develop an investment plan and then follow the potential growth of that plan over the four-week span of this class.

Four sessions: Thursdays, November 4, 11, 18, & December 2; 6:30-7:30 p.m.

*Massage and Relaxation

Need to rid your body of all that stress you've had building? Instructor Lindy Reinhart, LMT from relaxStation, is ready to teach you the basics of relaxation and massage. She will assist students on their path to relaxation through techniques and basic steps they can implement in their daily lives. Basic massage techniques will also be demonstrated. So grab your friends, join Lindy, and have fun while learning how to relax. Please wear comfortable clothing.

Two sessions: Mondays, November 8 & 15; 6:30-8:00 p.m.

*Holiday Cake Decorating

The holidays are coming, and a special cake would be a great way to make the special event even more memorable. Sally Wilkie will demonstrate how to decorate your unique holiday cake. Included in the class will be the tools needed to create your very own masterpiece. Attend the class and learn many different ideas on making that extra-special dessert for your holiday gathering. Sign up early to reserve your seat in this popular class. Class is limited to 15 students.

*Heart Saver CPR/AED

Are you interested in learning the basics of CPR? Or maybe you need to meet the licensing requirements of the Department of Human Services. Either way, this comprehensive class is useful for lay responders. Carla Steele will instruct students in a comprehensive course for adult/infant/child CPR. A certificate card will be issued upon successful completion of the course. A textbook will be required for this class. Register soon as this class is limited to 6 students.

One session: Monday, November 15; 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Fees: $40; additional book fee of $16

*Computer 101

Instructor Susan Jensen can help you learn the basics about your computer. This class is for the beginner whose knowledge is limited. This class will help answer questions and ease "fear" of the computer unknown. Basic knowledge of the internet will also be covered. Come with plenty of questions and leave with lots of answers!

Two sessions: Tuesdays November 16 & 23; 6:30-8:00 p.m.

*Should You Eat This Or That?

Join Dr. Frank O'Neill for a fun and informative class on healthy eating habits. Dr. O'Neill will discuss healthy food choices with the students. Reading labels, putting together a healthy eating plan and filling your shopping cart are only a few of the topics he will cover in these two sessions. If you have been thinking about making some lifestyle changes--now is that time to begin. Round up your friends, make a list of your questions and get ready to embark on a new healthier lifestyle.
