Raptors down WVC foe MVAO 3-1

MAPLETON - Coach Scott Mitchell's Ridge View Raptors continued to stay the course here Friday night, defeating a talented Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto team 3-1 in Regional semi-final volleyball action.

The Raptors served 94 percent in claiming game scores of 25-22, 16-25, 26-24, 25-23 over the host Rams to advance to the Class 2A Regional finals played Tuesday night in Denison against Carroll Kuemper, which upset East Sac County 3-2 in a donnybrook Friday night by game scores of 18-25, 20-25, 25-11, 25-18, 16-14.

Ridge View served 86-91 to turn back Western Valley Conference foe MVAO, and recorded 102-121 hits and 55 kills. The Raptors registered 81 team digs and 53 team assists in the big win.

Roxanne Grundmeier tallied 34 kills to pace Ridge View, while Brooke Wiese totaled 12. Setter Egypt Clayton amassed 51 assists and Shannon Rohlk had an ace serve for the winners.

Dig leaders were Grundmeier with 26, followed by Gretchen Kistenmacher 15, and Wiese 15. Nicole Boyle, Rohlk, and Grundmeier had blocks for Ridge View.

"We struggled witgh our communication in game two and the first part of game three," noted coach Mitchell. "We were lucky to pull game three out after being down early. It showed some mental toughness to come back from a 20-14 deficit.

"It was a goo win against a very good team. I was impressed on how we continued to play our game."

The Ridge View gals march on with a 28-13 record.
