Nicolaisens celebrate 65 years of marriage

Ferne and Vernie Nicolaisen
Ferne Goettsch and Vernie Nicolaisen were united in marriage at Galva on Nov. 10, 1945, and are marking their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Ferne and Vernie Nicolaisen have retired from farming in Rock township in Cherokee, and currently reside at 341 Fountain Street in Cherokee. The couple also had farms near Corectionville and Washta.

Ferne and Vernie have five children - Steven and Linda Nicolaisen and Larry Nicolaisen of Cherokee, Jane and Bob Boothby and Patricia and Joe Glassmaker of Marcus, and Lisa and Dolan Grashoff of Aurelia -

and also have 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ferne works on crafts and gardens in her spare time. She is an avid quilter and knitter, and also loves to crochet. Vernie enjoys restoring houses and working with his sons in their farming operations.
