The 43rd annual Northwest Iowa Junior High/Middle School Honor Band festival will take place this Saturday in Storm Lake.

Approximately 400 7th and 8th grade musicians from 44 Northwest Iowa schools auditioned in October for places in one of two equal bands. These two honor bands will rehearse during the day on Saturday and present a concert that evening at 6 p.m. in the Storm Lake High School gymnasium. Admission for the concert is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Guest conductors for the honor band festival will be Dr. Rolf Olson and Chuck Dibley, both of Vermillion, S. D.

Dr. Olson is the Director of Bands at the University of South Dakota and Mr. Dibley was most recently the band director at Rock Valley High School until his retirement in 2008.

Casey Kingdon, the Cherokee Middle School band director, is proud to announce the selection of two of his students, Jacob Fry and Kaitlyn Parrott, to perform in the Honor Band. Fry plays the trombone and Parrott the clarinet.

Three students from the Aurelia Middle School - Michael Swanson, Abigail Anderson, and Kirk Carlson - were also selected to play in the Honor Band.
