Just as they do every season, the dedicated military veterans of the Cherokee VFW Color Guard, no matter the weather, proudly served the call at every Cherokee Braves home football game this year with a 21-gun salute as the teams and fans stand at attention just before the playing of the National Anthem preceding kick-off. Cherokee Washington High School will host a Veterans Day Program on Thursday, Nov. 11, to honor all military personnel whose service to our country allows us the freedoms that we too often take for granted.

By honoring those who gave of themselves for these freedoms, we are reminded of our many rights that the citizens of most countries never realize.

The WHS Program begins at 2 p.m. in the WHS Auditorium and all veterans and the public are invited to attend.

Guest speaker for the Program will be U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Charles W. Steck, Detachment Commander for RSS Sioux City. His message will address Veterans Day, as well as current events. Enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1999, SSgt. Steck has served in the military for more than 10 years.

After the WHS Program, the veterans are invited to attend a get-together in the WHS Library where refreshments and memories will be served.
