Police sponsor Christmas benefit for needy children

The Cherokee Police Department and family members are again sponsoring the annual "Toys For Tots" Program benefiting the needy children of Cherokee County at Christmas time.

The Toys For Tots Program is a non-profit organization that seeks donations to provide the needy children in the county with presents at Christmas time.

This year, organizers are anticipating an estimated 100 children at the annual Toys For Tots Christmas party scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. Santa Claus will be present to hand the children their presents.

The goal of the organizers is to provide the children with some basic essentials that many of us take for granted, such as underclothes, clothing, coats, mittens, and headwear.

The Toys For Tots Program appreciates any kind of donation and donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Cherokee Police Department, 111 N. 5th St., Cherokee, Iowa, to the attention of Police Chief Steve Schuck.
